In DATA PERFUME®, HaYoung transforms internet cookies into olfactory matter. What companies use to track our behaviors becomes here perfume, identity, portrait.

The algorithm they designed translates browsing data into four digital behavioral categories: Chat, linked to communication; Exchange, associated with economic activity; Hunt, the search for information; Pure, the forgetting of intention. Together, these dimensions compose a sensory mapping of online trajectory.

The moment one steps between the rows of stacked boxes, an unidentifiable scent already permeates the space. Among the rows of products waiting to be shipped, the visitor discovers four perfume bottles: the artist's mother Yukyung Kim, sex worker Love, hacker Demonoix, and data center salesman Jean‑Luc Carpentier. The deeper one moves into the space, the denser the scent becomes.

At the back, visitors come face to face with Guardian Angels: Exchange, reminiscent of a sprouting potato. Bathed in light, it emanates an almost religious aura. The fragrance it diffuses is that of capitalism. At once familiar and enigmatic, Guardian Angels embodies the digital industry and its algorithms, propagating its scent like invisible roots at the heart of the network.
